Salt & Signal is a coastal magazine with a loyal readership and a tired look. We art directed its annual issue.
The scope covered art direction and editorial design, delivered over several focused weeks.
Challenge
The magazine needed to feel contemporary without losing the quiet authority its readers trusted.
The brief was to move forward without losing what already worked.
Creative approach
We shifted to a looser grid, larger photography and a single display typeface used with confidence.
Cover and feature layouts were built as a flexible kit so future issues feel related but never repeated.
Reflection
